Right in the numbers, it is a pretty standard boarding penalty that Brandon Bollig gave to Keith Ballard.
However the NHL still felt the hit was worth a two game enforced stay off the ice.
When I saw the hit in real time I thought it was a penalty, but not a suspension. However the NHL decided to take a look at it as the result had Ballard leave the game with an injury not to return.
Surprisingly when I put the hit through the suspension system, Bollig ends up getting three games. I think this is a little bit of overkill to be honest.
Maybe I am starting to get on board with the NHL and their decision-making, but the system is in place for that exact reason. Consistency is the name of the game and the system give us three games.
