A quick look at the significant injuries in the Central Division.
Salary cap proceedings have shifted depth around for Chicago a little, they are still good enough to absorb some injuries but the margin for error has gotten smaller for them.
With Nick Leddy being the casuality of the cap, the Blackhawks depth on the back end thinned out a bit. Guys like Oduya and Rozsival are day to day so the Blackhawks do not want those to get worse. Also Marian Hossa is having back issues again, he NEEDS to be on the ice for this team.
So with Bordeleau having back surgery it looks as though he going to be the only Av to miss the season opener. Everyone else is day to day and slated to be available for opening day. This team is being pegged to regress for a number of reasons, good health will help the Av’s prove the doubters wrong.
Well Rich Peverley leaves a massive hole in this roster, if he can return the stars are going to love having him back on the ice. Gonchar with a broken ankle hurts their number 2 pp unit, and does thin out their depth on the back 6 if another injury does occur. Kari Lehtonen had a concussion scare back at the end of September but after undertaking the NHL protocol seems fine to start the season.
So we have the Josh Harding broken/fractured foot, bizarre situation, lets hope the team doesn’t need him for a while. Everyone else seems to be ‘day to day’ with minor aliments that should not hold them out of the season opener.
Mike Fisher is the long term issue for this team, however the Predators could get a great second half of the season boost when Fisher returns in January Nashville need all hands on deck to get value out of every dollar they spend, so Gaustad, Cullen and Stalberg being day to day must be a sigh of relief they are not longer term injuries
Only player that looks like missing the start of the season is Carl Gunnarsson, a hip injury should never be taken lightly for hockey players. All the key ingredients for the Blues are up and running. Lets seem them get off to a good start and try and get ahead in a very tough division.
The Jets are playing their injury cards close to their chest. Lots of undisclosed ‘day to day’ injuries. Byff, Bogosian, and Andrew Ladd are all listed in that category with little news as to where and what is hurt. Keep an eye on opening night to see who plays well and who looks restricted.
